KGCPA, the Kenyan Guidance, Counselling and Psychological Association, has a rich background rooted in its formation in 2011. It emerged as a result of the 1st National Conference on Guidance, Counselling, and Psychology hosted at Egerton University. As a professional organization, KGCPA plays a pivotal role in representing the field of guidance, counseling, and psychology in Kenya. Situated at Egerton University in Njoro, Kenya, the association envisions itself as the leading professional association dedicated to advancing mental health, human wellness, and dignity not only in Kenya but also beyond its borders. To fulfill this vision, KGCPA has a mission that focuses on elevating the quality of guidance, counseling, and psychological services. This mission is achieved through a multifaceted approach that includes continuous education, the establishment of professional standards, supervision, research, advocacy, and fostering partnerships within a diverse global context. Achievement of KGCPA

Since inception of KGCPA, the following have been achieved:

  • Held four successful national and 3 international conferences
  • Successfully held the regular AGMs
  • Registered members from all regions of Kenya
  • Issued membership certificate to each registered member of the Association
  • Founded the only peer-reviewed journal of guidance, counselling and psychology in Kenya- The Kenyan Journal of Guidance, Counselling and Psychology (KJGCP) which is in print form
  • • Consistently published high quality research articles on an annual basis with 2021 edition being the 9th volume.

Membership of KGCPA

KGCPA currently has the following categories of membership;

Professional members

Professional members who are holders of a Masters or PhD degree in Guidance, Counseling or Psychology from a recognized university.

Student members

Student members who enrolled in a masters program in a recognized university pursuing Guidance, Counseling or Psychology related fields.

Associate Membership

Associate members who are holders of a BSc in any counseling or psychology related field

Benefits of MEMBERSHIP

Members shall receive certificates after registration. This certificate may be presented during interviews as proof of membership in a professional body.

The association organizes conferences for its members, people in the field of Psychology. Guidance and Counselling and all other stakeholders. The latest conference was international unlike previous year’s conferences which have been national. It was held at the Kisumu Hotel, Maseno University in 2018.

Associate members who are holders of a Bachelors are mentored by the other members who are professionals in the field of Psychology and counselling.

Publication in our journal; the Kenyan Journal of Guidance, Counselling and Psychology (KJGCP). KGCPA publishes our peer-reviewed journal every year and currently has published 7 volumes.

Annual General Meeting. In the AGMs, members are able to interact and share ideas with like-minded people and grow their knowledge among their peers.

Francisca N. Mbutitia is a senior Lecturer in Moi University, Department of Educational psychology in School of Education. She holds a PhD in Educational psychology, a Master’s degree in Educational Guidance and counselling, a post Graduate Diploma in Christian counselling and Bachelo,s degree in Education Arts. The current secretary Kenya Guidance, counselling and psychologist association (KGCPA). Her areas of research interest are: mental wellness, Psycho-social stressors, Trauma in children and adolescents, Christian counselling and quality education for the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
